No. Living Maia’s omega-3 is made from algae, not fish, so there’s no fishy taste or smell. The softgels are designed to be easy to take and gentle on the stomach, without the unpleasant aftertaste or “fishy burps” that many people experience with traditional fish oil supplements.

Do you test for heavy metals and contaminants?
Yes. Each batch of our algae-based omega-3 undergoes comprehensive in-house testing by our U.S.-based manufacturer, Icelandirect. They test for heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), microbial contaminants, and oxidation to ensure the oil is pure, stable, and safe.
We review every Certificate of Analysis (COA) to confirm that each batch meets strict quality standards before it is released.
Are your softgels vegan or plant-based?
Yes! The softgels are made from all plant-based ingredients: modified tapioca starch, purified water, palm glycerin, and rosemary extract. Tapioca starch forms the softgel shell, and it replaces animal-derived gelatin used in conventional softgels.
How long does a bottle last?
Each bottle contains 64 softgels, enough for a 1–2 month supply depending on your daily intake.
Is it safe for pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We always recommend checking with your healthcare provider before starting any supplement. That said, many expectant and new moms prefer algae-based omega-3 because it’s cleaner than fish oil, free of the fishy aftertaste, and our formula is pure and filler-free.
