Sustainability
Caring for your health and the planet go hand in hand. At Living Maia, every decision we make reflects our belief that personal well-being should not come at the expense of the Earth.
Our Sustainable Approach
We partner with a U.S. manufacturer that shares our commitment to sustainability and holds certifications such as Friend of the Earth, Friend of the Sea, and Green Tech, which recognize environmentally responsible sourcing and production practices. These certifications reflect their dedication to protecting marine ecosystems, reducing environmental impact, and creating high-quality supplements with integrity.
From sourcing to packaging, we prioritize choices that protect our oceans, reduce waste, and support a healthier planet for all life.
A Better Source of Omega‑3
Most omega‑3 supplements are made from fish oil, a practice that contributes to overfishing and harms marine life. But fish don’t actually produce omega‑3 themselves; they get it from the algae, the original source in the ocean. Our omega‑3 is sourced directly from algae, cultivated in controlled, land-based systems rather than the ocean. By skipping the fish and going straight to the algae, we:
- Protect fish and other marine life by reducing reliance on fish oil
- Ensure purity by avoiding contaminants like heavy metals, microplastics, and other ocean-borne pollutants
- Deliver clean, plant‑based nutrition with a lighter impact on the planet
Why We Avoid Plastic
Most companies, including many supplement brands, package their products in plastic bottles and caps. But an estimated 91% of plastics, even those labeled “recyclable”, are never recycled. Instead, they often end up in landfills or find their way into the ocean, where more than 11 million metric tons of plastic waste enter each year, roughly the equivalent of a garbage truck’s worth every minute.
Over time, plastic waste breaks down into microplastics, tiny particles that pollute our soil and water, now found throughout marine ecosystems and inside the human body. Studies have detected microplastics in a wide range of marine species, as well as in our food, drinking water, lungs, and even blood. Their widespread presence raises serious concerns about how deeply plastic pollution is entering our bodies and what it could mean for our long-term health.
By choosing glass bottles and aluminum caps, we’ve opted for materials that are much more widely recycled than plastic and infinitely recyclable without losing quality. These choices reduce our footprint and help keep plastics out of our land, oceans, and bodies.
Thoughtful Packaging
We go beyond bottles and caps. The paper materials used for our labels and product boxes are FSC-certified, meaning they come from responsibly managed forests that prioritize environmental health, biodiversity, and fair labor practices. FSC certification ensures that our packaging supports sustainable forestry rather than contributing to deforestation.
Our Promise to Do Better
Sustainability is a journey. We’re inspired by companies and individuals who lead by example, proving that business can be a force for good. As a small brand, we’re joining this movement that deeply aligns with our values, and we hope to help spread the message and inspire others to do the same.
As we grow, we remain committed to finding new ways to reduce our footprint, partner with responsible suppliers, and make decisions that protect the Earth we all share.
By choosing Living Maia, you’re not just supporting your health. You’re helping create a healthier planet for future generations.
